Eric Timperman has served as Principal Bass of the Regina Symphony Orchestra since 2023, following a 4-year tenure with the Winnipeg Symphony as a section bassist. Other orchestral appointments include Acting Principal Bass of the Des Moines Metro Opera and Assistant Principal Bass of the Carmel Symphony in the United States. His guest work includes appearances with the Edmonton Symphony, the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra and A Far Cry, a Grammy nominated string ensemble based in Boston, Massachusetts. Eric is currently the bass instructor at the University of Regina and has served on the faculty of the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and Arts, Rosamunde Summer Music Academy, and the Douglas Kuhl School of Music. He has also worked in classrooms as a teaching artist with Sistema Winnipeg and Yale’s Music in Schools initiative. As a researcher, he has been published in the journal Musicae Scientiae, presented at the National Association for Music Education’s Biennial Research Conference and has had work featured in Bulletproof Musician. He holds a BM and BA from Indiana University and an MM from Yale University.
When not playing or teaching music, Eric is typically found drinking coffee and doing crossword puzzles with his wife Kristy and their cat, Peanut.
