Violinist Catherine Cosbey is leading a vibrant and multivalent career of chamber music, both as performer and presenter. In the 2017/18 season, appearances include the Honens Festival in Calgary, Alberta, Festpiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany, Esterhazy String Quartet Festival in Hungary, Festival de Febrero in Mexico, Xenia Concerts in Toronto, the Regina Chamber Music Festival in Saskatchewan, and as well as cities across the United States. In this season, collaborations are with the Cecilia Quartet as guest second violin, A Far Cry, Katherine Dowling, Leopoldo Enrice Sheila Jaffe, Julian Rachlin, Sarah McElravy, and Boris Andrianov.
In the 2016//17 season, Ms. Cosbey served as both guest first violin and second violin of the Cecilia String Quartet with performances across Canada and Europe including the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival, Virtuosi Concerts in Winnipeg, and the Sociedad Filarmonica de Valencia.
A founding member of the award winning Linden String Quartet, hailed as “polished, radiant and incisive” by The Strad Magazine, she has toured extensively throughout North America and Europe, and has been the Quartet-in-residence at Yale University, the Cleveland Institute of Music, the University of Iowa, and the University of Idaho. The Linden Quartet gave frequent master classes, lectures, and educational outreach performances. Prizes include Gold medal and Grand prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music
Competition, a management contract with New York's Concert Artists Guild, the Coleman-Barstow Prize at the 2009 Coleman National Chamber Ensemble Competition, the 2010 Hugo Kauder Competition, and the ProQuartet Prize at the 9th Borciani String Quartet Competition. Ms. Cosbey holds degrees from the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory or Music of Toronto, the Cleveland Institute of Music, and Yale University’s School of Music. She studied with Erika Raum and Paul Kantor, and was mentored by the Tokyo Quartet and the Cavani Quartet.
Ms. Cosbey is proudly the Artistic Director of the Regina Chamber Music Festival, a week-long chamber music festival that works in collaboration with Regina Summer Strings to bring inspiring concerts and instruction to her hometown community in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, and co-Artistic Director of Bach From The Heart, a concert experience that explores the emotional journeys of Bach’s Solo Sonatas and Partitas for Violin through music and poetry.
