RSS 2023 is honoured to welcome the Cuarteto José White to our program. This much feted quartet, with more than twenty years of experience, is today a benchmark for chamber music in Mexico and Latin America. Formed in the tradition of the classical string quartet, the CCJW has built an outstanding reputation for their wide range of classical, contemporary, and avant-garde repertoire with particular emphasis on the music of Latin America.

First Prize winners of the “Concurso de Música de Cámara” of the city of Salamanca, Mexico, the quartet has maintained a consistent performing schedule in the most prestigious forums in Mexico, the United States, Canada, Latin America, and Europe.

As inheritors of the teaching methods of their mentor Jerry Horner - long-time violist of the Fine Arts Quartet - the CCJW stands out for its considerable work in the pedagogical field, influencing young people and artists through their educational concerts, conferences, composition and chamber music workshops, as well as the annual intensive course for string quartets (“Curso Intensivo para Cuartetos de Cuerda”).

Thanks to the support of the “Sistema de Apoyos a la Creación y Proyectos Culturales de la Secretaría de Cultura de México”, in its program “México en Escena”, the CCJW has held a composition contest for string quartet writing every year since 2010. Multiple interpretations and recordings of the winning works are testimony to the importance of this competition.

The members of the Cuarteto José White are Silvia Santa María and Cecilia García (violins), Sergio Carrillo (viola) and Orlando Espinosa (cello).
